Thursday, January 8 Little Minnows: If I Could Talk Like the Animals . . . Growling, barking, meowing, chirping . . . these are all ways that animals talk to each other. But what about dancing, leaving behind scents, and changing colors? Thursday, January 15 LECTURE: Naturalist, John Page Williams will present Exploring in the Wake of Captain John Smith at 7:30 p.m. Learn about strategies, itineraries, and tips for exploring Capt. Smith's Trail, especially up the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Touching on vessel choices, safety, natural history, and human history this talk will be interesting for anyone who wants to explore America's first water trail. Admission is free. Saturday, January 17 Chesapeake Lights brings representatives from lighthouses around the Bay to the Calvert Marine Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you're interested in lighthouse, this is a great time to learn more. Special lighthouse items will be featured in the Museum Store. Thursday, February 26 Concert by Joe Stead, one of Great Britain's greatest folk musicians, collectors, teachers, recorders, adn performers, recognized as "one of the godfathers of British music." He has toured both Europe and America and recorded with such well-known folk artists as Pete Seeger, Martin Carthy, Martyn Wyndham Read, and Alex Campbell. Thursday, March 12 A State of the Chesapeake Report for year 1608: Lecture by Kent Mountford, PhD, Estuarine Ecologist and Environmental Historian. This talk will explore the much different Chesapeake that John Smith experienced in 1608. It was home to Native peoples who impacted the watershed in their own ways, but an astounding resource for the ambitious Englishmen who arrived in 1607. What we've done to the bay in 400 years leaves us facing severe challenges to even modest restoration. 7:30 p.m. in the museum auditorium, FREE!
